I am going to agree with your there Tom.
However, there is also the other side of the coin. Non-anglers being introduced to the sport by the low cost retailers, and then advancing on to using and purchasing better and more suitable, albeit slightly dearer tackle from the specialist shops.
A low cost retailer knocking out cheap tackle is nothing new; I started out with Winfield branded tackle from Woolworths back in the early 1970's, and today I own several thousand pounds worth of gear purchased from tackle shops around the globe. Even with a lure collection that runs to about 300 items in various styles of lures, plugs and spinners I still can't pass a tackle shop without having a look see and I usually ending up buying something ... ... ....even this weekend I bought 2 lures which I'll not be able to use until the season begins in mid June.
