Larson trap

After five days set with just a few eggs in it as bait, I've managed to catch my first magpie. With him as a Judas bird, just watch me go.

Strike one.

We're in charge of my neighbour's Larsen trap while she's on holiday---so far we've got 3. That's three that aren't stealing my eggs and trashing my wing mirrors.

What bait are you using for the chavs lottie, do you just put a fake burberry cap in first time round??

As they say in cricket " one brings two."
Strike two.

My o.h. has been checking my neighbours Larsen over the last two days instead of me. Conversation over lunch---
Me "How's M's trap doing?"
Him "We caught 2 I let them go they do no harm"
Me  "Apart from 3 sets of wing mirrors we've had to buy that they've broken and the eggs they nick"
Him "Oh yeah I forgot about the wing mirrors."

I moved the location of the Larson by about 50 yards just over an hour ago and Bingo !
Strike three.

I'm up to six now. Thats six less mouths to feed songbird chicks to.
lottie

That's why my O.H. doesn't like killing them, he says they've as much right to live as song birds and the way people feel about them is just avian racism---odd that those kind of sentiments don't seem to apply to foxes that he wages a one man war against.

They say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating and while I may be totally wrong onthis, I think that one of the reasons that we have such a fantastic array of songbirds visiting our garden, is due to the fact that we try and control the number of magpies.

I just thought I had better post that i love reading these tales

I have a feeling that my magpie might be an ugly one. It hasn't attracted anymore of its mates for a day or two.

We caught a chaffinch in the rat trap today---luckily it was fine when we let it out,no luck today with the Larsen-- my o.h. bought some "nicer" bird food for the bait magpie than my neighbour left, so I have my suspicions

Eggs and egg shells lottie

I meant food to feed the bait magpie that's in there. She left one in so we'll make sure she comes back to one in. When we've had problems with crows taking eggs I've had great success putting a rabbit trap with eggs in in the entrance of the chicken coop.

Ours is on a diet of chappie dog meat with the occasional pigeon egg thrown in for good measure. I was thinking of setting one or two mouse traps too.
