Lanterns.

For the last few days, we've been slowly working our way through the old tin barn and generally tidying up. This afternoon, I came across these lanterns. Very useful items that could one day, or should that be night ? Be far too useful to dispose of.
First of all a petrol Coleman lamp, although it does say in its description that its dual purpose.

Secondly, a real little gem of a find. A Tilley lamp that has never even been put together, let alone used.
I'm fairly certain that both lamps are now pretty much out of fashion.

That Tilley's a find & a half mate!!!!! Looks as though you everything you need to get it going, too...............even the pre-heater!!!
bodger

Never been used Stu.
Woodsmoke

Cracker! You know how to light one?

Im still terrified of Tilley lamps to this day. We had one when I was a child ( 3 day week era) and I was warned NEVER to gp near it! Love Lizzie

Nice Tilley.

Have spent many an hour using them.

That is as others said a great find all you need is fuel and meths for when the power goes off

Bodge,

coleman kit is dual fuel rather than dual purpose.  It will burn either coleman fuel (the lamp makers proprietry fuel) or plain, regular unleaded petrol.  I have a stove of theirs that i've been burning unleaded in for years - can't fault it.

Its good job you pointed that out to me.

Hi Bodger

I just bought a Vapalux for the princely sum of 17..

I haven't lit the lamp as yet (Have the meths for the heater but have to go and get some paraffin), I have to get a couple of mantels for it too..

I also found a couple of Pressure stoves in the garage that i'd forgotten about... it looks like anothe collecting obsession is starting to take a hold!!

They need parts, the Cobra just needs two legs making, i've got a few welding rods to make them from

I've even started looking at my old Alladin Paraffin heater in the bottom greenhouse with a view to polishing it up

Cheers, John

Phew John. That Primus stove takes me back. As a kid camping with my parents I can still recall my dad struggling for what seemed like hours to get one going.

Ha Ha!!

I had the same problem once trying to light a plumbers paraffin blowlamp

I have a similar stove made by Phoebus which is all complete, plus two Optimus petrol stoves. However when camping, these days, I'm inclined to use a Trangia as it packs up smaller, is more efficient and runs on meths.
I also have two Davy miner's lanterns which get used when sitting out in the garden on a summer's evening.

I guess led lights have not made it to you bodger
bodger

Can't find a way to get the paraffin into them.
