Kindling Splitter

Well ive decided to have a go at making a kindling Splitter. I already have a log splitter that is run off the hydraulics on my tractor. I have in my Tardis Garage a hydraulic pump and a tank the pump used to drive a splitter and is powered by a tractor PTO but I want to adapt it to a 6.5hp petrol engine that I have. Ive got a Ram and so all I really need is the hydraulic control some pipes and steel Oh and a way to design a cutter head to split Ash to around an inch square, and to adapt the pump to my petrol engine
Im sure if I ask Gareth nicely he would come up with a couple of Splitter head ideas

I have knocked up several spliting heads, but unfortunately none of them 100% sucessful.

I all depends on what type and form of Wood you want to kindle.

Cut offs from a Carpenters, or jointers woodshop are quite easy to split, but I found rounds of pine, spruce, ash and oak fairly difficult. The knots kept getting stuck.

Look forward to see your take on a splitting head.

I was thinking of something like a potato chipper ?   made from 40mm x 6mm bar
flipance

I use an electric log splitter in my basement, no fumes, no problems.

Yes, I have seen that clip, but I wanted a splitting head that would split both  horizontally and vertically at the same time.

I'm now thinking along the lines of a "V" shape head, with the Wood being split from the sides to the middle.

The job has now been put on hold due to a ruptured  Achilles tendon.

I would say that 1" square is slightly to big.

Your potato chipper idea is good but you will need to stagger the blades as you need to allow for the thickness of the splitting blade which will make the log expand & bind if you use a flat grid system. A larger more powerful ram can over come the binding but will put lots of pressure on the grid as well as the rest of the system.

I can see one problem, that is finding all the logs just the same width as  in both thoughs videos

To get over the binding problems my thoughts are of a cone structure with a hole in the middle and blades on the inside of the cone...... sort of
