stir crazy

jumping after 20 years

so have decided I want to get back into my jumping. not done it for many years, (and even then was no natural, 2'6ish) as no horse/instructor but the new boy was purchased with the intention of changing all that.

so today.... went to a small little event. just 1 foot ish jumps but indoor, coloured poles and I have only had him 5 weeks ish so no idea what he would make of it. practised a couple of cross poles during the week.

It was awesome - he was sooo well behaved all afternoon. loading, tied to the trailer, warm up, arena, hanging around. I am so thrilled with him.

sorry no pics, hubby did a video and may get some snapshots from it.

but just to say - if i can do it anyone can. all those who keep putting it off - make it this summer as the one - you will LOVE it

Good for you, keep going, it gets easier the more you do it, even if the nerves still manage to be there (well at least they do with me)

I find there are plenty of classes to be doing at the height i want to start with at the moment, its just a case of fitting them all in. And there are an awful lot of riders out there like us that are just getting back into it after a break and dont want to start off at 3'6" or above!

Look forward to hearing you have done lots more.

I'm 50 hm hm years old and I still jump and do cross country.  You're never too old!I'm not as 'reckless' as I was as I am well aware that 'these old bones' will take a lot more 'mending' than they used to.

I keep saying to myself "I'm approaching 50 and should be slowing down abit" but the enthusiasm is still there and am looking at giving BE a go next year if i can find somewhere close enough that does the training classes.  I never thought i would get above 60cm but have done a 75cm ODE and hunter trial and the 85cm is starting to look appealing

A short while ago I got back into jumping. The first attempt was a hysterical disaster and then it all came together.

So pleased he is turning out well for you! I did the same last year-and it has been a disaster! Hate the bdooly horse and need to get rid! Oh well-you win some you lose some!
