Jackdaws?

We've always had hundreds of jackdaws and although they've been a bit of a nuisance with the chicken food, now they've turned their attention to my apple crop. I've been finding small half eaten apples both on the floor and on top of the chicken sheds. I saw them actually attacking the apples on the trees this morning
I've started to shoot them with the air rifle this morning and later on, I'm going to set the Larson trap with some bread. However, I'm going to have to kill hundreds of the damned things if its going to make any difference and I have given some thought to constructing a larger permanent wire netting enclosure type trap. Anyone got any designs ?

There's also the small matter of disposing of lots of dead Jackdaws to contend with. I don't like the idea of bumping so many of but if I don't, then the chances are that I'm going to end up virtually appleless.

Bodger catch or shoot a few and hang the dead ones about where you want to keep them away from. It worked well here they stayed well clear.
Border

I use to have a problem with crows, shot a few hung them up by one  wing to a post that had been knocked into the ground on an angle so they blow about a bit.

The rest did not seem to like this and buggered off elsewhere. When they started to return, I shot some more and moved the posts this seemed to work well.

I'll give it a go.

Well I've tried my Jackdaw gibbet and I think that it was working but a fox has helped itself over night to the three birds that I've had hanging.

Hehe time to get a few fresh ones then. They start to smell pretty awful after hanging for a bit anyway. Ours are still around but they're staying away from the chicken pens even after I took the dead uns down.

A ladder trap is good for the corvids Bodger. Catch more than a Larsen.

Do,nt you expect the Jackdaws to fly away with them
bodger

Oops! and I haven't touched so much as a drop I'll get my best half to sort my little foo pa out when she comes in from work.
bodger

Still nothing to do with jackdaws   but my El Cheapo mouse traps have arrived this morning. I'll have to see how they go tonight and maybe I could feed my catch to the jackdaws so that they leave my apples alone.
bodger

Damn and blast! I've bought nine cheap mouse traps that refuse to go off.  My only chance of controlling the mice looks to be if the  mice suddenly get an intolerance to the massive amounts of peanut butter they're taking off the traps.

Been there done that

They are designed to lull the mice into a false sense of security

Do you mean sort of kill em with kindness?
