Its that time of the year again.

Today I've set about tidying the barn, I reckon its going to tse me at least three days to complete and that's with a following wind but I've been waylaid a little.
I caught two rats in Fenn traps over night, so I've just been baiting up the bait stations. I hate the beggars. I'm pretty sure they've only just moved in, so hopefully I'll be able to nip the problem in the bud.

Did your tribe of dogs not take care of the problem in the past for you ?

Rats are bad news to have around a home, they really are.
My brother shot the ones that were trying to set up under our shed, and two little ones drowned in a bucket of water under the outside sink.
There's a burn runs just a few metres past the side of our house, along side an abandoned mineral railway line, so there's a wide range of 'nature' on our door step. I suppose the occasional rat is to be expected, but it doesn't mean we get complacent about them. My cats used to take care of them for me, but I no longer have a moggie. Fortunately the garden is the 'through going close' to the burn for the neighbourhood moggies though, so they seem to keep on top of the mice and rats quite tidily.
Good luck clearing yours out.

I had a little bit of luck with the rat and mouse poison the other day. One of the local charity shops had thirty boxes of rat and mouse poison given to them. They didn't feel as though they could sell them in the shop, so rather than throw them away, they gave the lot to me.

That will save you a few bob. I've just started baiting our sheds this last week, try to get on top of them before they get out of hand

Now we have 2 dogs and 4 cats we seem to have had the best winter ever for lack of both but seen cats with a few mice brought in to show us

I did think i had got rid of them from round the stables but our one and only cat has left me 3 outside the back door in the last 2 days! Well, 2 complete but chewed ones and one that was just head, tail (literally) and a bit of entrails.

Thanks heavens the squeamish daughter didnt see that one!!

I have 4 cats and haven't seen a rat for years, even around the feed shed. I get a lot of dead mice and rabbits laid out as trophies on the doormat though!

Another rat in a Fenn trap this morning. That makes four in the last few weeks. I've put poison down a few days ago but I might have to consider setting up a couple more bait stations.

Not a happy bunny here :(
I found mouse pellets under the washing machine when I was cleaning the floor last night. They weren't there last week, and there were only four of them, and there's no obvious smell, but, the trap's down and I'll haul out the contents of the awkward corner cupboard next to the washing machine and scrub everything down with bleach. It's only spare cleaning stuff that's in there anyway, but still.
Just that time of year I reckonů..and me with no moggie, and Himself is adamant no more pets.

Yes sounds like start of the cooler days, they move in to warm places. No go under our oven it is a bricked in coal range

Another rat in the Fenn this morning, by my reckoning that makes five in the last few weeks. The rat had pooed himself as he breathed his last and it was bright green. That tells me he'd been eating the rat poison that I've put down, so I've set up two additional rat bait stations.
