Its another world.

I read this BBC article with interest and like I said, its another world.

As the saying goes.....''How the other half live'' eh!
I made some a few years back, a basic red and a white.
Cheap as chips stuff, as it was then!
They turned out not too bad a drink after a year or so, but then i turned to.....BEER MAKING!!
Never looked back really.
£8 for a bottle of plonk from Majestic does not seem too bad for decent 'named' bottles, better than Tesco 'basic' stuff i suppose, but then i'm no expert on Wine.
When we moved house 4 years ago to where we are now, the 'Laird'--(Landlord)--had got Raspberry's fermenting in the airing cupboard, and,  Xmas just gone, the 'brew' was ready.....absolutely stunning.....and very ferocious too!!
So the question is.....whether to try HomeBrew Wine Making again, based on the 'Lairds' results?!?!?

Right, going to get a Lager on the go for summer.
It's a Geordie kit beer.....with a little alteration.
First off, i'm going to reduce from a 40 pint, to a 30, giving it more strength and a bit more body.
Second, i'm going to use 'Youngs spray malt light', and beer and wine making sugar, as opposed to the normal, granulated sugar.
Third and finally, i'm putting in a handful of Halleteur dry hops, specifically for Lager type drinks.
I'm a 'kit' brewer and like to experiment with them--first time with Lager though, as i'm a bitter drinker normally, erring on the 'bitterness' of the humble ''hop''!
I also have a Yorkshire Bitter, a Scottish 'Heavy'--(both from the Geordie stable)--and a tried and tested Stout, from the ' Richies Simply' range of beer's, that was an excellent brew the last time out, with the addition of extra roasted barley, and a handful of 'Fuggles hops' thrown in!!
It would be interesting if anyone on here who brew's from 'scratch' as it were--(with all the ingredients and such forth)--could give me, and indeed others like me, any 'pointers' as to making up brews from basic ingredients, and a rough guide to temperatures, equipment needed etc, etc.
All information gratefully and enthusiastically received to further a rich and rewarding hobby!!

The simplest and cheapest way (you don't need as much equipment)  to brew from scratch is to use the "Brew in a Bag" method. It works great.
Just google brew in a bag, there is loads of info.

I had a look at the jimsbeerkit site brewer66, it looks ok and i'll probably join at some point soon.
Also i looked into the BIAB--(brew in a bag)--method too, i'll leave that for now though, although it does contain some real good information for a later starting date.
The geordie lager is doing well and should be ready to bottle next week when i'm off, possibly sunday.
With a couple of handfuls of Halletaur hops tied into some new cut up tights and tied both ends, and the addition of light spray malt, i'm looking forwards to a few pints on long, hot summer (!) evenings!
Well, i can dream of long hot summer evenings can't i!!
