If you didn't know better

You'd think that milk should be just about the greenest food available to the public. Cows eat grass and out comes milk, what could be greener than that ?

Unfortunately that is not the case and thats why the milk industry is starting this campaign.

Yep ! green seems to be the buzz word if you want to improve sales and image. Whenever I see this sort of thing launched, I always wonder just how much helping the environment has got to do with it.

Think the report on the today programme sumed this up. 50% of packaging to be from recycled material. Well we aint got to go back far to find a time before supermarkets got a stranglehold on milk supply that it all came in multiple reuse bottles! Reuse far better than recycle!

Would that be when the big estate farms (owned oddly by Unigate, Dairy Crest, etc) decided to do away with the Milk Marketing Board so that they could make higher profits.

Can't blame the supermarkets for this one much more the dairys (not the smaller herd owners) and their greed. They have swallowed every extra penny pumped into milk over the last 10 years and screwed the farmer.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
