I've started in earnest.

On the rabbits at our place. I've managed to shoot three today with my eldest sons .177 airifle. We've only got a few small fields and I did my shooting in the daytime, which gives an idea of just how many we have.

I went fishing with our member Penny Royal this morning and was discussing the problem with her and she said that if I shot one then she'd have it. Guess what she's having for dinner tomorrow.

Told Doodle you had the makings of a good crop there when she posted photos of the rabbits!

Yesterday, I was forced to start to make inroads into the cuddly hoardes of rabbits that at the moment have us under siege at home.
I've loved seeing them around and get lots of enjoyment from watching their antics but you can have enough of a good thing . We've never had a problem here with bunnies, this has been because we've always had champion rabbiting dogs around the place. However, I'm afraid to say that our current crop of dogs are a set of wufters, in as much that they would be hard put to to catch a cold, let alone a rabbit. Because of their inadequacies, we've experienced a population explosion of almost biblical proportions.
Yesterday, I hardened my heart and took up arms, in the form of my sons Weihrauch .177 airifle and started to pot them off. I shot my first one through the kitchen window ( it was open    ) at a range of around 25 yards and then knobbled another two. I was dead chuffed at first at my marksmanship but felt really guilty at having to do it later on.

I've killed thousands and thousands of rabbits in my time, in a blood thirsty career of nearly fifty years but now I'm afraid that I'm worried that I maybe growing soft in my old age. I'll come and kill your rabbits without any qualms but my own lickle bunnies ?
I fear that I may well be on the slippery slope to becoming a bunny hugger.

PS .Whose got any good recipes for Mrs Floppys Tail ?

It's sad to see a once great warrior fall. The tribe will no longer have fresh meat, their leader is toothless....

Ok, fair enough, but if you must join the ranks of bunny huggers, before you do can you show us how you skinned them last three?

I got one more yesterday morning before going off to cricket and another couple when I got home in the evening. That makes six in total.

I'm still whacking rabbits regularly but the numbers are showing no signs of diminishing. I know that there's just gott be fewer of them but there are still plenty about when I do my rounds feeding and watering the livestock.

And still they keep coming. I bopped this beauty with a head shot from my sons 177 at about 20 yards this evening as I did my rounds feeding the chickens and horses.

There's still loads of the blighters.

I knobbled three more yesterday. Two with the rifle and one when it made the mistake of  running through the Fen trap tunnel which is designed for the rats. They're after my trees I tell yer.

Nice fresh free range meat supply for you though!

Bodger, funny as it may seem, I can understand your sentiments exactly. Last night I started my first proper rabbit job of the year, easy one, a caravan and camping site, in 3 hours i had accounted for 59 cleanly head shot bunnies, not a twinge of guilt did I feel, however we have several in our garden which i choose to leave go unharmed even though there unwanted attentions do vext my better half in the veggy patch, but I choose to look on and say, bless arent they sweet.

Got another one first thing this morning in my dressing gown. That'll teach the cheeky b*****  to nick my clothes.
It was a nice three quarter grown rabbit which will taste delicious. I got a nice clean head shot with the .177 at about 25 yards. My shootings either getting better or luckier.

Three of his luckier mates managed to leg it, so there are still plenty to be going at. Its a good job that I started trimming their numbers when I did, or there would be trillions of them.

I shot a nice carrion crow from the window this morning while waiting for a bunnykins to hop out.

The bedroom window sniper has just struck again. :bunny:

Infact, I've just added a second rabbit ten minutes later from the same window. Strike two.

Update, make that three rabbits i've shot with the air rifle this evening. Where the heck are they all coming from.

Funny name for a Rabbit.
