I'm making a new sewing area....

I've been making bits and pieces like passport holders and purses for friends and relatives but it's getting very tiresome lugging out all the stuff onto the dining room table every time I want to use the sewing machine.

.....sooooooo I had an idea that caused poor Mr Dingbat to roll his eyes but he said 'that's cool, I'll do it' (he always does!   ) and so today I got Michael to help me relocate the freezer that was stuck under the stairs into the utility room and I've just this minute finished painting out the area under the stairs. We had lots of magnolia and white emulsion left over from the bedroom so it has been put to good use! Have glossed the skirting board as well.

Went this morning to pick up a piece of worktop from Wickes and a shiny table leg, these will form the sewing machine desk. There will be lots left over as well to make shelving from.

Just waiting for it all to dry now, touch up any bodgy bits then Pete will start measuring up and drilling holes tonight after work he said, as long as he's home at a decent time.

There will be pictures for when it's finished!

We turned the cupboard to the side of the stairs into a mini-study years ago and it hides all the technology lovely. When I was doing my degree and teacher-training I used to shut myself in there with music playing through the speakers and turned up the radiator Mr Dingbat added later to keep the chills away in winter.

I love making use of every available inch of space we have.

Don't know if I ever showed them but here is the 'study'....

Michael is much younger here! Now he's tall and spotty and loathes his picture being taken...

The study has changed a tad since then, that is....an upgrade to the printer, router and computer. A few more pics and things on the walls.....also could do with a new coat of paint!

Excellent idea(s). I look forward to more piccies.

It looks as though you are using every inch of space.

I'd love to see your sewing area when it is done.

Agree and as said above

Should have some pics for you tomorrow

ALMOST done!

Mr Dingbat just gone to borrow a big fat drill bit as he can't find his set, need it to drill through the worktop so the cables can go through. Tomorrow I'll be gluing the end onto the top to finish it off.

Under construction! The house is old, no wall or floor is actually straight so we had to plane bits off here and there to make stuff fit.

Shelving up! Waiting for the drill bit....

Going to IKEA to get some under stair storage to put in fabric etc. for this bit.

..and the view from the chair is awesome!

That's amazing!!!! Well done!!! Like being in your own little world, yet not ... Bet you stay cozy in the winter while sewing! Thank you for the photos! Very, very nice.
Woodburner

Very cosy! Don't sew your fingers while watching TV!

As if I would do those things...!

I'm having a quick break (horse is at instructors all week at boot camp and just got back, very tired!) then I'm going to be cutting out some material for more passport holders. A friend want's me to make lots to sell in her vintage tea-rooms and antique shop! so I'm on a mission to get them sorted before I go on holiday.
