I'm glad I'm not that keen on lettuce.

We wake up to the news today that Tesco is limiting the sale of iceberg lettuce to 3 per person.  Crikey! who eats 3 in a week?

It seems that bad weather in Spain has damaged harvests so we're seeing lettuce, peppers, courgettes etc. disappear from our shops.

Perhaps everyone will now discover what wonderful home grown seasonal veg we have in this country.

Yeah - all this about a vegetable shortage ...

Potatoes, onions, carrots, parsnips, winter cabbage, last of the season's leeks, frozen and tinned vegetables ...

There's only a shortage of out of season and imported vegetables grown somewhere that has suffered the winter weather we've not had.

Must be a lot of people who don't know about seasonal vegetables including reporters on the telly and in the papers.

Me cynical? Yep. Obviously we haven't trained our children right.

I have a friend who moved to spain a couple of years ago and has been posting pics of her house and the local roads flooded. Maybe we havent had such a bad winter after all.

I have to wonder if this will mean panic buying in the supermarkets! I live in the middle of the biggest veg growing county in the UK and am constantly surprised by friends who will only buy veg from supermarkets regardless of cost or airmiles!!

Local is so much better and home grown is the dogs!!!!

We eat a couple of lettuce a week. I'm not fond of the waterbomb imported ones, but himself likes those iceberg things. I prefer the British ones, the cos and the like. Slower grown, greener, actually have taste.  I'm tempted sometimes to set up an old aquarium with a grow light and just do saladings on a permanent thing.
