Hows the rat catching going Bodger ??

I woke up this morning to a good size rat up a tree eating the wild bird feed, quickly grabbed the air riffle and shot the bugger !!! going to be waiting in the morning to see if its mates come out to feed.

Nothing in the traps but I'm feeding them goodly amounts of rat poison.

Nice one!

It's the season for them, new holes dug under the chicken sheds, every autumn we get them.

So it's poison into the bait boxes and start removing the chicken feed overnight.

I went to our local Wynnstay to buy some rat poison and because of new regulations they refused to sell me any unless I could prove to them that I was a professional and that it was for professional use. I have an RSH in pest control but the a combination of slugs and mice have devoured it.   I took the exams so long ago, that there isn't any chance of me getting a duplicate. The RSH ceased to be a long time ago.
Not a problem, thankfully I was able to get an 8kg tub of wax blocks on the internet. Problem solved.

We've finally managed to kill off the ones that had taken up residence under the compost bins, but we found we could only buy tiny wee packets of poisoned bait.

Would you link to the wax blocks please Bodger ?

Well I,  like many others have noticed an increase in the buggers now at this time of the year,  and due to the furore I caused last winter by using antifreeze to poison them I am looking for some decent proper stuff, any affordable recommendations please 😊

I'll be spending a fair chunk of my day today setting up a mini trap line. It'll be a mixed approach of both rat poison and traps. I'm not prepared to allow the little barstewards to set up home here this winter.

Armed with my poison blocks, I'll  have plastic drain pipes and bait boxes to tether the blocks in. I thread the blocks onto electric fencing wire and make sure the bait stops where I want it.

Trap wise, I have Fenn and break back traps, plus a couple of cage traps. Game on !

Oh i feel your pain , i,m just back from  4 weeks in Australia ,and it would appear that i have become a rat keeper !!!!!  my mate who was looking after my chooks , has been throwing a lot of feed out , thinking he was being kind to the Hens , when in fact he was creating rat hotel , so with this in mind its WAR !!!!!  i have ordered 10 break back  traps , and hopefully i'm going to obtain a large tub of blocks from a good source , and i have 2 live traps , i will keep you updated .
bodger

Keep at it, you'll soon sort them.

Rat number 31 ! caught in the traps today , and i cant /dont want to think about how much poison i have fed them in the last 2 weeks ,   The good news is that the chicken keeper who caused us most of the problems has given up , and vacated his plot ,   .
