How to Join electric fencing

The elecric fence in the pig paddock was not performing very well, only 2 lights on my tester when it should be 4 or 5, the more lights the bigger zapp ! I thought the energizer was on it's way out, it is like me getting on in years.
After a bit of research I found out that just tying the fencing tape or string does not provide good conductivity, the more joins the lower the efficiency and mine had quite a few joins.
What you need to do is tie the two pieces of tape or string together leaving a short "tail".
With a lighter burn the plastic off to expose the strands of wire, twist the wires together and hey presto you have a conductive joint.
I did all the joints and my tester went from 2 to 5 lights.
Two warnings, watch out for the plastic dripping, it burns    and when you've done the fence make certain you don't touch it, it gives a right "kick"
Sorry if you allready know this but it was a revelation to me.

Great tip
My tape (when I use it) has lots of knots in it, but now I know what to do to keep the little sweethearts where I want them

Guess you found out the warning bits by trial and ouch   thanks

Dead right Sod.
The little blobs of plastic let go just when your not expecting them and being molten they STICK
The "fencing test"    I was so chuffed with the results I collected my snips, rubber gloves, lighter, etc and strode off not noticing a large lump of limestone, half tripped over and touched the wire.
Such is life
