How to get Browney points by building a log store.

I started to build a log store so that our firewood should be nicely seasoned next year.

Here's the spot that I chose. I had to cut various clematis down to make room.

This is how far I got in my venture. So far, the build has cost me twenty pounds for the uprights. The other timber was formally the Pwllheli Butlins stage.  I bought it 15 years ago or more and it owes me nothing.

The idea is to let plenty of air through the timber and to allow the dogs access under it to deter any unwanted visitors. On Saturday I'll be off to the timber card for materials to finish the project. I must admit that my efforts today have gone better than anticipated.

i'm impressed, is it all your own work or has Blind Pugh been with you
bodger

No Pugh, I managed to drag young Rob out of bed just after twelve. Argh bless him.

Very impressive. It is very important to have lots of circulating air to season wood ( so OH tells me!). Watch out for rats under the decking bit - we got a few under our log stack and they are very difficult to get out when the los are stacked.  Drove our Jack Russell mental when she could smell them but not reach them. Love Lizzie

Thats why Bodger has done his base higher up than a pallet so the dogs / cats can get under. Same with hay / straw stacks. People use pallets them moan about the rats under. Put the pallets on enough blocks so the cats can get in too.

Good tip Justme!  I will tell the OH. Dog will be pleased to get her teeth into the rats. Love Lizzie

The finished article. Going by my normal low standards, I'm really chuffed by my results. I keep on having to go outside to admire it.

Gareth

Nice looking log store mate

Just one observation; maybe it would be advantageous to foot the legs. They could settle into the ground over time and the anti vermin gap would be lost.
Hawkeye

very good i must say your carpentry skills have definitely improved ocer the years
bodger

The legs are settled into the ground, they've been dug into it.
Kirbs

That looks impressive Bodger

(<sigh> I wish I had a handy Bodger)
kaz

I'm going to put a mattress in it and use it for extra accomodation/camping over the summer
Hawkeye

good idea kaz or hang a hammock in it. Gave it an inspection earlier on it is very good
bodger

My next project could be the now almost compulsory decking.
Hawkeye

did you forget to mention that Blind Pugh had to finish it with you, no secrets round here you know
Hawkeye
