Hiving a swarm

This morning our bees swarmed, we have boxed them and are waiting until this evening to re hive them. Is this the best plan time wise? any advice more than welcome please, we have never done this before.

Thanks it is suppose to be quite a sight seeing them walking in ...I just have this feeling they may b***** off in the other direction

I would have loved to have seen it - Bodger would have stayed at a distance........he got stung this evening

ooouch I was stung on Sunday..thankfully no reaction. It was certainly a sight to see, just sorry I missed the swarming and collection.

Dave the bee keeper had been last night to do something with his bees and I got stung in the lughole as I was feeding my chickens about 25yards away sholrly after his visit. It wasn't too bad, as I managed to scrape the sting out fairly quickly.

I had the same thing last autumn bodger, only i ended up with a fat earlobe for about a week afterwards. i even saw the bee coming towards me almost in slow motion, very strange it was. My earlobe was really warm as well, like my very own hot water bottle! It took about 10 days to go back to normal size.

A couple of photos taken at the time

Walking into the hive

Starting to swarm

Those two pictures, especially the last one, are absolutely stunning.

My husband wasn't suited and he said it was like standing out in drizzle.

My lughole is still red hot and swollen.

oooouch  I have a rather painful sting at the top of my leg. Amazingly the only sting any of us had over the couple of days sorting them out.

Fantastic creatures.

Those picss are great. One of the first things I am going to do here is join the bee keeping club. It is an apple growing area...(with lots of Cidery's..apparently that is what they are called here) so I can at last fulfil my ambition to keep bees.

Fab pictures, are you gonna have them blown up and put on the wall? (Pics, not bees!   )

It would be more tempting to blow the bees up, they tried to go again yesterday, until they realised the queen wasn't with them and they all made a hasty, somewhat embarrassed retreat back to the hive- thank goodness for Queen excluders.

Unfortunately the photos were taken on a mobile phone so not good enough quality to enlarge.

I have some video clip, the sound is amazing but I don't know how to add it.

Would be a fab picture blown up....!

I showed the pics to my son, who ran off howling the other way! Ha ha! He's terrified of them!
