Help ! Freezer kaput?

Help ! We have two chest freezers and one of them has conked. We use it  as a secondary overflow one when we have pigs slaughtered. Then, as soon as we have munched through enough pork to get all the frozen stuff into just the one freezer, this secondary one is switched off. Its a pretty newish one and its been switched off for about six months until now. It hasn't been moved since we switched it off but when on Monday we switched it on, it refused to work. As the saying goes " the lights are on but there's nobody in' The lights come on for both freeze and fast freeze but it isn't doing what its promising to do.
Other than scrapping it or getting a repair man in, is there anything that I can do to try and get it to see the error of its ways? I wouldn't mind, but it isn't even an old freezer. Our other freezers have simply gone on and on for ever.

As a last resort, firmly tap the compressor with a lump of wood, it could be s sticking relay or motor.

Or kick it and say *** *** ******** ***

My 220 litre upright freezer went bananas after about 4 years - have a service contract so a techie came out like chick-chack - the thermostat had gone and it would only run on fast-freeze.

No problem.  Got the service contract, right?

Yes problem.  They could not find the correct new thermostat after having brought three different ones, so I said ess oh dee it, give me a new freezer, give me good px on this one, and give me 5 years free service contract on new one.

Ahem.

Phone call.  Have a look on your computer for X brand.

Had a look.  Looked good.  So I said OK, how much.

Wait, he said, I will call you back in five minutes.

Five minutes later he called and told me how much and how much they would give me px, so I said OK, when can I have the new one.

Wait, he said, I will call you back in five minutes.

Five minutes later he called and said two days.  No I said, I want it tomorrow, and I will not pay for delivery.

Wait, he said, I will call you back in five minutes.

Five minutes later he called back and said the new freezer will be with you tomorrow between 10am - 12 noon.  No delivery charge.

10.05am the next morning I received a phone call from the delivery driver "I am on the Moshav - where exactly are you?"

Which is why I ended up with a 280 litre air-flow frost-free upright replacement freezer.

Oh, and when I changed Pereg onto raw I needed another freezer for her [who buys freezers for their dog?].  I can't get out so phoned my do-everything-and-do-it-well guy and asked him to please look out for a small [140 litre 4 drawer] freezer.

A week or so later he phoned and said he had found one and as he was going to come to fix something here would I like him to buy it and bring it here when he came, and I could pay for it when I paid him for the work he was going to do.

Which is why Pereg has her own freezer!
