Hedgehogs ?

Whe I was a child the estimated Uk Hedgehog population was 30 million. By 1990 this had dropped to 1.5m. The last decade has seen a 40% drop in numbers.
Anyone seen a hedgehog his year ?
Yorkshire Geordie

This site,
http://www.hedgehogstreet.org/pages/how-many-are-left-.html
says that there are probably fewer than ever because no recent counting has been carried out.

As sign of their decline, this year I've only seen one or two run over on the roads.
however, a couple of years ago, we went to Alderney on holiday and there were loads of them.

There is an excellent write up at

This Extract is interesting and comes back to the feeding in dry weather point in the badger thread.

"Badgers are a natural predator of hedgehogs and
hedgehogs actively avoid sites where badgers are
present in high numbers. When the habitat provides
sufficient cover and good foraging opportunities,
badgers and hedgehogs can coexist, but when there
is no safe refuge and the prey that the two species
compete for are scarce, hedgehogs may be in serious
trouble."
