Health Matters

We are thinking of adding a new section to the forum called 'Health Matters'.
Subjects about health tend to get buried in chat or discussion and aren't open to the full membership in The Fitness Room, with a new section it would be open to be viewed and posted in by all registered members (meaning that you have to be logged in to see it).
What do you think?
J20

Me personally, think its a very good idea
bodger

I think that we'll probably retire OTG Free to the Trading Post to make room for the new section.
There enough difference between a health section and the fitness room for the two sections to work individually and in any case, there's no way that I'm going to put how heavy I am at the moment on an open forum
Rena

Sounds like a great idea to me.
Border

What type of health issues are you talking about ?

I'm not sure that people will post their health issues on open forum.

..........but I will post that I weigh 19 stone, and my weight is not an issue to me, so there you go bodger, so you're not the biggest/heaviest man on the forum.

Am I correct in thinking it will only be open to the 1069 members of this forum?
escape

Does that mean we might find a cure for Man flu

I have started to come down with it.... no really I have...... sniff

Yes
(but we hope that people will keep joining to go over the 1069)

Another way which does require some setting up is as follows:

You can create another group and give that section only that permission.
Then you can allow each user the option to join that group, if they don't want to they will never see the section.

Not sure if thats needed for this topic, but I have found it useful in the past

good idea,

Nobody has to post anything that they dont want others to know regarding health issues, but going back though the posts theres loads of different issues of  one thing or another that have cropped up.
Seabird

Is there the facility to post anonymously?

e.g even though my posts are all accredited to 'seabird', those particular posts would be credited to 'anon'.

Not that I have any embarrassing problems at the moment, but you never know
bodger

I can understand people concerns about privacy, but what you must remember, is that most of us are anonymous anyway. Have you tried looking up a Mrs Seabird or a Mr Bodger in the phone book ?
Juli

I'm not sure whether my views count or not, but I think a "Health Matters" section would be a good idea.

Not for expert advice, obviously, but f'rinstance "I've got an itchy left little toe, has anyone also got one and any ideas how to stop it" sort of thing?

Or - "I've done my blankin' back in, hellup hellup hellup".

Seriously though, I really do think it would be a good idea, if only for folk to know that no, their itching left little toe isn't necessarily a sign of leprosy, or, well, I hope you get my drift.

It could also be useful in helping people cope with "I can't do such and such, what do you suggest" type thing.

border I'm in shape "round is a shape isn't it" stolen from sons tee shirt. I think its a great idea as people can give ideas that have worked for then to help overcome things sometimes, if you know what I mean not medically

The new section is up and running next to the Fitness Club
Health Matters can only be read and posted on by members that are logged onto OTG.
The Fitness Club remains a 'by invitation' section which can be accessed by PMing me.

If you find issues on other sections that would be more useful in the Health Matters section let me know and I can move them over

health matters

I know im new but cant you once a week have a topic of say diabetes, and people can reply, with their experiences, either what they have experienced themselves and how they deal with it, how it affects their lives etc, you would get positive feedback, and later on you can make a fact sheet. and OTG members who are interested in that particular topic can refer to them.

That sounds great and people could help others by telling how they found out they had got it as a lot of us just put up with things till it is to late but could get things checked out IMHO
