Hatching Eggs and Summer Dinners

Im ready to start raising this summers dinners again.... thinking a batch of quail, of which I'll hold some over and keep them indoors as layers.

Also thinking either a good meat chook or a little bunch of Peking's, I'd like to finish them fast and we are not too fussy here.

Opinions and reckommendations would be much appreciated. Last years ducks were rubbish, no meat at all, the chooks (Golden Brahma's) were lovely though!

I'm told Peking's will finish in 7-8 weeks, can anyone confirm?

Now I have to find eggs..... think I'm a bit early yet but if anyone is selling eggs yet let me know!

So many choices!
Are you looking at doing batches and processing all birds like hybrids or more like Duel purpose birds keeping pullets back for breeding?
if pure DP breeds, something like bodgers Light Sussex are worth a look.

It all depends on what your goals are, as in what weight would you like on your table and how quick would you like to get it there?

For example my goals are a 2kg dressed bird in 14-16 weeks in a sustainable flock.
I have achieved this in my hybrids last year but will have to see if they breed true, I'm also very close in my Indian Game pure breeds.

This year I'm breeding the Gallic hybrids, crossing them with hybrid Farm Rangers and crossing both with Indian Game, as well as trying to improve my pure Indian Game, also going to try some Marans crossed with them for dark egg table birds.

Have a look at my Table Bird Project thread from a few months ago and let me know if there's anything you like the look of and I'll try to help you out egg wise.
It's all early days mine, so no guarantees

I'd like to do batches, ready as quick as possible really. No need for dual purpose as we won't be keeping them for eggs etc.

I'm thinking something like a Golden Brahma, as the one she I raised last year for eggs were lovely meat birds.
