Guerilla gardening anyone?

Does anyone partake in a little geurilla gardening.

I've been known to covertly sow a new roundabout with sunflower seeds as I cycled around it. I used bird feed sunflowers, and it was reasonably successful.

Two of our friends; Jo & Rebbeca are guerilla gardeners, sowing allsorts of Wild and cultivated flower seeds, along with flowering herb seeds around the Norwich area.

Lois and I were looking around the net for a birthday present for Jo's up and coming "milestone" birthday, and we found these: Throw & grow flower seed grenades so we have bought her a box of 3 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Throw-a...3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26

Although the seeds in the grenades are a little on the boring side, we do hope that she enjoys them.

BTW, the grenades are made from un-fired clay, so after they become wet from a rain shower the broken shards will naturally dissolve away.

That would make a brilliant defence for anyone caught cultivating cannabis " I was guerilla bombed your Honour"

I often take a pocketful of seeds when we go dog walking in Spring.

That's a nice gift idea

I am not sure if it qualifies as real guerilla gardening - but we got bored with plain grass verges in the village so a few years ago went around with the daff bulbs. Did some too close to the edge of the road and wide loads went over the edge and we lost them but some came out ok.

I like the idea of those bombs. Thanks for the link Gareth.

I have also found Kabloom flower grenades, and this company seems to have a better selection of varieties for throw & grow guerilla gardening:

Ditto, I throw them just a bit farther back than the council mowing gangs will cut- so right down the middle!
I like the grenades too!

The unfired ceramic "Throw & Grow" seed grenades arrived today that I bought for our friend Jo's birthday present.

I am rather impressed with quality of finish on the grenades themselves, but was considerably less impressed with the amount of foam packaging; a recycled packaging material would suit this product an awful lot more.

The grenades complete with the seeds weigh about 125gm each, and there is a self adhesive paper covering over the filling hole, with enough room left inside the grenades to add 2 more small packets of mixed wildflower seeds.

We have also decided to to buy a mixed pack of the Kabloom grenades for Rebecca's birthday in a few months time.

However, we will not be purchasing any more of either brand, but will be make a few of our own.

Dad used to make biodegradable seedling pots from a paper mache mixed that contained a 50% by volume washed and then air dried sea weed mix with added horse manure, and I see no reason why we cannot make a few guerrilla gardening bombs from the same.

The inside surface of a tennis ball cut in half will make a suitable female mold for shaping the mix prior to drying, loading with seeds and sealing, These home-made ones will also be slightly smaller than a tennis ball and will fit inside a pocket much better for covert gardening missions...... watch this space for a few photos of my efforts.

Sounds good
