Grey Squirrels.

A couple of years ago our strawbwrry beds were stripped clean of fruit and unripe buds leaving us with zero fruit from them, I couldn't seem to find out what it was doing it, I presumed mice or rats, then a neighbour spotted that it was grey squirrels, I had left them before that as they just seemed to be eating off of next door's bird feeders and because of protests from a couple of people who like them, anyway after that I got my air rifle out an accounted for 13 in 5 days.
So last year no problems, no squirrels and plenty of delicious strawberries

But now they're back, I don't wait for them to start on my garden now I just take them out as and when they appear, I have shot 3 in the last 10 days until today, first thing this morning when I got home from nighshift there was one sitting on the gatepost eating a big red fruit, took the shot and missed    so I thought i'm off to bed he wont be back for ages, but when I looked out of the bedroom window it was back so back downstairs and out in to the garden, got him   .
Went back in, looked out and there is another, back out again, got No2.
So I went to bed only to be woken up by the window cleaner a couple of hours later ( I hid so I didn't have to pay him lol) - joking!
As I was awake I looked out again, there was another, bang, down that went too, but I wasn't sure if it was a clean kill so I went to investigate reloading on the way, but sure enough it was dead, I just decided to peep over the fence into next door's garden and there was one about 10 ft from me, just staring back at me, so I raised the gun and looked through the sights, it's big soft eyes looking back at me, it looked so cute, and probably only half grown, I thought to myself "look at it, not that old, hardly lived" so I said to " Good Night Fluffy" and shot that too.
After a few more hours sleep all was quite in the garden so I set about doing some work on my Transit conversion, then after my tea I got ready for work again and as I always do had a quick look over my gaden before I leave and would ya believe it another one is there eating a strawberry on the gatepost, so I quickly grabbed the gun and got that little bugger too. 5 in all today.
So we are off to Wales tomorrow for a short break hopefully with todays shooting there will be some fruit left for us on Monday, as I know my daughter wont try and get anymore for me whilst we're away.

When I had my allotment, I had a strawberry patch usually had it netted to keep the little  %^&*** off, but on the odd occasion they would get in and have a feast.
The annoying thing was they would leave some half eaten ones on the bench that I had. {some with just one bite out}

That's right mate, taste em then move on to another, even the unripe and young buds so there is nowt left to grow, not just the stuff that is ready for eating.

Beside the strawberry and other fruit problems, the little beggers think nothing about pulling young plants out of my tubs and hanging baskets to bury stuff in......usually nuts at various times of the year, at the moment pea nuts.... that a certain neighbour puts out to feed the birds....
