We have same here as big places moved in mall friendly shops have closed. One is all the hardware shops have gone where you knew them and could go get oddball things now just big places with every thing in sealed bags and they only carry quick turn over items.

We're lucky, to still have a great iron mongers in Pwllheli and they do indeed stock everything and anything that you can think of. There used to be an equally good one in Criccieth but that closed quite a few years ago now.

Oh how lucky you are , its a 28 mile trip to get anything that either isn't broken the first day of use , or costs an arm and a leg ,

They certainly don't make them like this anymore. Our local ironmongers was established in 1856. They have three or floors and invariably if you ask for something no matter how obscure, they toddle off and return to the old fashioned counter with what you want.

Use it or lose it. However some shops get stuck in a time warp and it becomes impossible to use them.

It's an absolute gem. Unfortunately the owner's husband died recently and I know she's struggling to keep the business and their farm going. So if there ever was a case of 'use it or lose it' it's this shop, I'm worried she might just throw in the towel.
