Future broodies.

Put this silkie over some light/sussex bantams last year and kept back 3 nice hens for future broodies.

Very nice !! All my 'old faithfuls' are getting on a bit now, this will probably be their last year so I've been thinking of suitable replacement breeds.

I had a friend who kept a flock of pure LS bantams just to be broodies, he swore by them.

Thanks for the replies.Bodger the light sussex bantams i have kept over the years have made good broody birds.

I keep large LS and they make reasonable broodies and don't tend to be too clumsy. They can certainly cover a good few eggs.

Are they good laying birds bodger?
bodger

They're pretty good. As pure bred birds, they're the closest thing to laying hybrids, performance wise that I've kept.
