Have a look at this thread, it shows the gubbings of my home made fox trap.

Make the trap as big as possible.

Following in Sandrar's footsteps, my old home made fox trap has certainly seen better days, so I'm thinking of purchasing a factory made one. Here's a question for the pesties amongst us, which sort of trigger mechanism do you favour for dropping the door? The treadle or the one where the fox pulls at the bait to set it off?
sandrar

The one I bought can do either. However saying that I still haven't caught the B. At the weekend we moved the trap and cut it into the fence line of the pen and have two young cockerels running on the outside.

We now have permission to go onto the estate land, with terriers and guns as the general believe is they are holed up in the plantation.

He's definitely still around and my hens are still shut in.
Dave C

Is it a shooting estate ?

If so get onto the keeper, he will like to know if he has a fox about and should know or have a few handy digging terriers, he will also know where all the likely setts are

good luck
sandrar

It was until a few years ago and now they have permission from the owner a few of the old beaters are going to go down with their terriers and guns.

Enough said Bry.
I've checked it out and it looks good but there's no mention in the description as to what size it is.

The bloke in the clip.............

170 ............someone is taking the pisss.

I have made 6-7 fox traps for the same price.

I use the same gauge of wire mesh as the mink farmers use, and join it all together with the same rings as they use.
bodger

My lads at home for the time being Paul and he's very good at doing this sort of thing. In your spare time is there any chance you could do a step by step pictorial? Pretty please.

See what I can do next time I knock up a few.

Shame....... this post did not come up a month ago as I have just knocked 10.

if you are handy with a mig welder  then a good homemade fox trap is best.

I have learned to put a door on the rear , 1 for easy baiting  2 to remove the fox ( with the trap in situ )  i hated trying to crawl into a trap to bait up when its stinking lol.

I used to have access to a workshop, and i would have made you a trap.

John theres 2 secondhand fox traps for  sale on a hunting forum 90 for the both
Matt25

Just finished knocking a home made trap together and wondering whats the best thing to bait it up with?
bodger

A dead chicken or a duck works for me and a road kill pheasant or rabbit would do the same.
Matt25

Cheers Bodger that's what I had in mind will look out for some road kill on the way home

Of late, my fox bait has been in big demand. I've got a fox at night time trying to did under the trap to get at it and during the daytime, I've got a buzzard after it. He's going into the trap without setting it off. he's flown out of it twice already today.
bodger

I set the fox trap at four o clock last night and by half past, I had to go and let the buzzard out. He's pretty desperate for a feed, so I'm going to put some food out for him. He can have the neck and giblets from the chickens that I prepare for the house.
We have a pair that have nested just across the road from us for the last couple of years. I don't know whether its one of the pair or one of this years youngsters but I reckon a little help wont go amiss.
