Forty years ago today RIP

If you're an oldy, then you'll remember them well but if you're only a young sprogg, then you wont.
On this day in 1969 ahead of the complete change over to decimalization, Britain scrapped the 10 shilling note and introduced that trouser puller downer  the 50 pence piece in its place. For the sproggs in our midst, it was a brown coloured bank note that IMO fitted much more nicely into your wallet than the new fangled coin.
Bazzer

True but you had to fold a white Fiver umpteen times to get it in any wallet smaller than a ladies handbag.
Digindeep

Blimey! a white fiver....eckers like....you were well orf..

Count yer Groats an' weep, Potteries Pauper!
Want a bag full of my Kitchen Scraps? Keep the family fed for a month.
I do love reading how the poor people live, 'tis sad sometimes but not enough to worry about. They all die young anyway and breed like rabbits, so as long as I have enough fittish ones around to clean, keep the estate tidy and tend the fields and stock, I'm not really bothered.
Last year one of those people(?) actually asked for a half day off on Christmas Day. So I gave him a present.
He got soundly thrashed, evicted from the two rooms he shared with his wife, In Laws and 12 children and told to leave within one hour.
That made Christmas Eve for me.
