Have a look at this.
Planted up against a north facing wall and receive no direct sunlight at all. 24/7 - 365.
Cotoneaster Apiculata

Ours are low growing with a spreading, carpet like nature and can be hard pruned to shape or size.
Virtually all garden centers stock them.
Ferns and Hostas like shade but Hostas tend to become Slug Restaurants.

for the summer yes.If you want some to leave what about some making  alittle area with wood land plants- fox gloves, primroses, cow slips, then a few hostas as well for some nice foliage?

Most hardy geraniums do well in the shade, pulmonarias, vincas, hostas, fuchsias, and dont forget most bulbs will be up and flower before it gets too shady. Love Lizzie

Your a star......

My raised beds are looking better, the soi in them was a heavy composite that didn't drain to well. Well about 6 weeks ago they had a good layer of rotted manure addred....then yesterday a friend dropped me a ton and half of sharp sand which has now been spread on.....then this morning the same friend brought me the same amount of good quality top soil. I'm knackered but over the moon.....this year should produce better results for me.

Bushes - azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, hypericum.
herbaceous perennials - solomons seal is the only one I can think of...

I like geraniums as well - they just keep going and in our area they will winter out as well.
