Float making

Does anyone make their own floats these days ?
We used to make our own when kids also our own hook to nylons.
I should be getting some goose feathers shortly for making floats, so I'm hoping to have a go and show my kids how.

Used to make floats out of alsorts, but being a trout man I never made any for floats for the English type of fishing that my brother in law does.

Once made a cracker (BIG) of a bubble float out of a xmas tree ball, it went for miles when swung casted right.

Jim makes them, he's sent me some beauties. I'll get some pictures of them and see if i can't persuade him to post some of his trade secrets.

Allsorts???   Does liquorice float????
Remember some kids used to make floats out of the small plastic reels that held sewing thread from their mum's or gran's sewings boxes when the thread had run out - and occasionally when they hadn't

Well I've had a bash at making a few balsa wood ones and here's the result they take about 4 AAA + 1No1 to cock them.

I've just been given some goose feathers so their next.

Dunno if they will be any good but it's fun making them
