Five years on, and 6 days to go..

I finally finished DD's blanket which I started five years ago!  In the intervening time I have inherited a blanket which  my Grandmother knitted for my Mum so that is incorporated in the middle of the back.  The flowers are holding the back and front together so it doesn't become a giant bag!

I love that - I have thought to make a knitted blanket using all different designs like yours but I can never seem to get the squares matching sizes with different yarns and pattern

Definitely a family heirloom

Well done! What are you going to do with all your spare time now?

Flowers definitely a good idea - I've used covered buttons before on fabric quilts - will have a go at flowers (butterflies even?) on the current one

If you're not going to knit them diagonally, which would ensure even size, then going by this blanket, yarn is so tolerant that it doesn't really matter taking the thing as a whole.  I suspect there are variations in size of square of up to around an inch.  My biggest problem was getting the back to fit the front, which is doesn't.  The front is about 6 inches bigger I reckon.

It's beautiful and I'm sure will be treasured always.

Thank you for all your lovely comments!   It has now moved to university where it is a success, and makes her little bedsit look very homely.
