Fishing on my hols !

I've been fishing for a few hours whilst for the last three nights whilst away on holiday before retiring to either the pub or the cider cellar.

The lake was well stocked with carp and roach. To be honest, it was probably too well stocked and the fishing was pretty easy. Yes ! Even I caught loads of fish.

Here are a few pictures. The carp were all about three or four pounds and were absolute luncheon fiends.

The fish were shoulder to shoulder and there wasn't a lot of sport in catching them. The owner of the pool needs to net a load out so that those remaining grow a bit bigger.

That is the main reason why I am often a blanker;

I point blank refuse to fish stocked pools such as that. I also tend to fish in places well away from established swims on the rivers and broads that see day in and day out occupation by other anglers. Preferring to target stretches and areas that have not seen an angler for many months, sometimes years. Often it is a mini voyage of discovery and adventure, resulting in me exploring the harder to reach sections of the rivers, Which as you all know is not without it's perils and moments for me. ... ... .... mainly climbing and some times falling out of trees, etc. but the rewards often justiy the means, and my methods: A balistic Jack from a difficult to reach lily pad, a monster Chub from under an overhanging bush, a hard fighting Perch from around an abandonded piling, a Zander from an overgrown sand bar.

Be honest Gareth  You even blank in stocked pools.

Well, I've only been out twice so far this season, and blanked on both occosions. First cast of the first session of the new season generated a hit from a Jack of about 5lb on the Zombie lure I was using,  but I was just not quick enough to set the hooks.

The same can also be said of the second session; I was just not quick enough to set the hooks when a Pike of unknown size picked up the float/ledgered Sprat I was fishing in the flows crease of a local weir pool. What made it worse that this occured twice with minutes.

Don't knock the hat buddy boy.  At least I didn't get sun stroke, at times the weather was way too hot. I thought abot the OTG beanie but gave it a miss.

I'll stick with my multi-purpose, Duke of Kent style, headgear.

People knock stock ponds but I think it's a great way to get beginners hooked on angling. Nothing like a bit of success at the outset, even if it only weighs a few ounces it can be the start of a lifetimes pleasure and then just wait for the bigger and better urge to set in.

Well done Bodger its always nice to see the float go under, they are great confidence boosters pools like that and those carp look fin perfect
