First Earth work

Hi All
Took Kip a stage further in her training. I wanted to see if she had any interest in going to ground. I have no immediate plans to use her for Fox though. However, if the skills are in place should the need arise, sorted.
Took her to a disused Earth and introduced her.

She went off exploring with very little encouragement. So far, I am very pleased with her progress.

Cheers rustyboy. She is a belter. She is the first Border I have had. She wont be the last. Very impressed with the breed. I have to keep myself on a tight lead and remind myself she is only 7 months old. One step at a time!

She certainly looks as though she enjoyed herself, the only thing I would say is remember with borders, they can be very easily put off if entered too early. They are sometimes very slow to enter, but if you get a good one, it will be a sensible working dog for many years.

I agree with Conundrum here, and at 7 months going to ground on charlie is a no no.

Borders are renown for being slow, but once they click they are Great workers.   All i can say is take your time with her, looks like she has got it in her blood

Nice looking dog too

great to hear, and good luck with her.  Bilbo is almost 2 now and i am hoping to introduce him this season.  We have walked past an unused earth weekly since getting him out and about with very little interest as there is no scent around there.  last week he shot over to it and vanished in through the back door...he reappeared a few seconds later but i was well impressed. i think with the change in weather charlie may start to use it a bit, or have already started to use it and he caught wind of this.....will wait and see and keep you posted.

I did a lot of research before I got Kip. I needed a Terrier, but herself didnt like the Plummer/JRT (I had worked these before so would of got one or the other happily) So after we got her, she keeps throwing in surprises. Very game, inquisitive, bold and biddable. I was prepared for a slower dog, but she certainly isnt! I think it would be a total travesty to spoil her by going to quick with her and not let her grow into her role.

Well in Bilbo

There is 1000 Mink unacounted for in Donegal after an Illegal release by animal rights terrorists. If only it were 12 months down the line. I hope Kip will make a good Mink Dog
