For the Christmas of 61 I recieved a Dansett portable record player...
Yep! portable, plug it in or carry it...
An Uncle gave me the princely sum of 1...
Had to wait untill the shops opened just after the holiday....
I purchased...
Helen Shapiro.....Walking back to Happiness
Kenny Ball..........Midnight in Moscow
Acker Bilk...........Strangers on the Shore.
as it was just after the holiday, there was very little choice,

Had 5 shillings and some odd pennies left....took my first ever Girlfriend
To see West Side Story....no I didn't have any money left....
in fact we walked there and back to the picture house..
Still got all three and still enjoy them, be it with scratches

PS..I'd had other records bought for me, say for birthdays ect previously,
but those were my first purchase..

My first purchase was 'Runaway' by Del Shannon.

I really can't think of a 'worst' (I like to think I've always had good taste   )

    Wait 'till Scottie sees this.
He was very big on the C/W scene in later, post pop years so I've been led to believe.

I saw him once in Birmingham in the 80s I think - on a 60s revival tour with Bobby Vee and a few others. He was very good.
I believe he commited suicide didn't he? What a waste!
