Ferret explosion.....................

Fun with the fuzzies this evening!

This time of year is always the time to keep my eyes peeled for the jills starting to come into season. I've got two hobs, Pounce (who's been neutered) and Teddy (who hasn't!) First signs are always easy to spot...........Teddy starts to proudly show off his peanuts & turns into a complete hormone-driven muppet For their part, the jills start to encourage him by smelling really nice (to him, anyway!)

I have a seperate court for the boys until the jills are taken out of season. Teddy's due to go into the vet for a vasctomy shortly, so that'll save a bit of hassle next season as the jills won't need to be injected

Always fun & games when the court door's opened!

And it doesn't take long before they're at it

Everyone wants a fuss

But there's always one.................and it's always Teddy

My wee pal Bubble

Pounce working out his best plan for prolonging his freedom

And the Dynamic Duo working out who's going where!

That's the boys seperated now, & I can breathe easy knowing that Ted's not likely to get the chance to create dozens of wee bitey furballs for this season at least

lottie

They're lovely!---can they come and play with all the bunnies running round my field.
Woodsmoke

I'm sure that won't be a problem.........................

How many d'you want?
jgm6897

nice looking bunch.
just out of interest, how much does neutering a male cost in comparison to getting the jill jab?
Woodsmoke

It depends on whether castration, or true neutering is required for the hob. I've been quoted around 60 for castration, as opposed to 90 for the vasectomy. The jill jabs are around 7 per jill I've got 8 jills though, so to me it makes perfect sense to get my hob vasectomised so he can bring them out of oestrus. And bearing in mind that the jab doesn't always take effect on the first go, it can be both a huge inconvenience and extra cost if it needs to be done twice.

I would've got Teddy done last year, but he was one of that springs kits & I judged he was just a little bit too young
Darren

taysiderabbitter would probably lend you his vas hob

Idiots guide

Not calling anyone a idiot but we have the idiots guide to keeping ferrets it covers most bases if any newbie to ferrets would like it,we have 3 hobs cookie, smokey and mr white that are as tame as tame things come when called lick our face and nibble our ears, but they are always up for a adventure, they have managed to get out twice in the 7 years we have had them but always come home saying that the last time smokey stayed at home on guard duty looking all innocent like I think they have just popped out face. but we love them, they have a large outdoor enclosure with loads to stimulate their inquisitive minds. when they were small they were visited by a young female blackbird who used to stand outside their hutch and sing to them they would push kibble out the cage to her and chatter and dance for her it was so cute to watch.

Forgot to mention the book is free No P+P just thought it would help get a newbie started on a love affair with ferrets.
