Electronic wizard?

Do we still have any electronic wizards with us?
We rely on an electric fence run from a mains energiser to keep our pigs where they should be and to keep our poultry safe from foxes.
We live in an area where power cuts are common, as are strong storms. A few years ago, we had a power cut that lasted for days but thankfully, we didn't have any pigs at the time, or we would have been up the creek without a paddle.
I've been thinking about getting a smallish generator to give us a bit of security but then today, I thought of the Lister petrol driven water cooled static engine that I have here.
I went to a country show last summer where as part of a vintage farm machinery display, an exhibitor was working a board of electric light bulbs with one. Do you think there's anyway that my Lister could be adapted to run the electric fence?

.............and I thought that he was thinking about a generator to maintain a few home comforts - not to keep the pigs in

Yep - 35 years - should have known better

I was going to suggest solar powered battery....but then realised you needed the sun for it to work
bodger

Don't rub it in Jayce

Funny I though the same as we have 2 genys for home comforts   one we can plug fence into BUT have car battery fence unit.
Genys for lights and tv radio etc.

Can be done but you need to do check and sort out  revs of engine to have geny running at right speed plus load acting. I have seen one with a lister on

It would be major overkill.

The fencer will need just a few watts.

You would be better with a battery unit & battery as a back up.

Yes I was thinking Kaz might get some spare power for house comfort things . We have car battery ones and just swap batteries plus Solar top up
Justme

List what Kaz would want to work & we can go from there.

Oh & for how long, hours or days.

Dont you have solar panels?

If so a battery/inverter/grid outage add on might be better.
bodger

The power from the solar panels go straight into the National Grid.

Yes but this idea was for power outages.

So no power will be going to the grid. In fact no power will be made.

You can then use an add on to allow the panels to make power & use it in the house during the power cut.

Obviously only when the sun is shining & for as long as the battery its charged can last.
