Dusting off the Incy

I am getting tempted now.

When are you going to start ?
olde9856

First set of ducks tomorrow, then hens next weekend
Dave C

What breeds are you putting in mate
sandrar

I've done a couple of hatches so far. They haven't been a great success as the thermostat was dodgy, but that has now been replaced and more eggs are due in a couple of weeks.

Fertility was 100% for the Leghorns and fairly high for the Light Sussex but dreadful for the Welsummer. ( I need to put the cockerel in with fewer hens )

A broody silkie is due to hatch Pekin eggs this weekend.

Ducks are just crosses which I have been keeping for years. The hens will be French and copper Marrans and poss. Some crosses for different egg colour. I have been breeding for coloured eggs for donkies years
bodger

I've got just the three breeds here and at sometime I'll set some eggs from all of them.
Dave C

I've got 35 eggs in now, will be in a week tomorrow.

Have had a few problems with a borrowed Incy losing temperature but hopefully things have settled down.

Will candle them at the weekend and see what's happening.
Let's hope this Bresse cockerel has some lead in his pencil

How's everyone getting on ?

Well the Ducks were a total miss! Time for a new drake I think.

How did the Marans do pal ?
olde9856

Just setting them today, we decided to wait a while for better activity from the cockerel

well my attempt didn't go well at all, although a few had sparked up none made it & I think the fault is mine, I have a feeling I had far too much water in the trays & it was too humid. The incubator was set for an alarm to go off at 45%  humidity but the only way I could get it any where near that was to have loads of water in it. Reading other literature apparently 60% reads as 30.5 on a wet bulb (whatever that means)

I could do with finding someone local  that uses incubators that I could get a lesson from I think .

The Octagon 10 I have been given is duff
The temp is up & down and all the eggs showed clear last night when I candled them

So need to get another Incy sorted ASAP so I can rear them all together with my others which candled all full

A lot of people hatch dry due to the high humidity we have here,

Did you crack the eggs open to see how far they had developed?
Dave C

Well after a very poor start and only currently 6 chicks I am having another go.

12 Indian Game & 9 La Bresse eggs went in yesterday
olde9856

Yeh I got 12 out of 16 which is not too bad. All still surviving. May well put a set of more ducks as the new drake has been with them for 4 weeks now.
