Dried potato flakes and rats ?

I've just read of a novel method of controlling rats that gets them to eat dried potato flakes. Instant mash really I suppose.
A bowl of water is placed by the flakes. The flake makes the rats thirsty, the rats drink the water and the flakes swell up in the rats stomach and kill it.
Having felt rather bloated myself after a heavy Christmas meal, I suppose that in theory this method might work, I'm not sure what do you  think

Now before anyone tells me that this not an approved method and that it doesn't sound very humane, I've only brought this item up as a matter of interest. I am however pretty sure that people other than professional pest controllers can buy dry potato flakes.

Who? Gordon Ramsay? - I may not be a big fan but that's a little drastic

Has anyone actually tried this?

I have heard similar with people who have problems with cats coming into their garden and soiling.......the trick then being to cut up small pieces of sponge and place in saucer of milk - cat drinks/eats and later dies of blockage.....

And again - I have only heard this...never seen it or actually know if this has occurred...nor do I condone it.  I prefer the water pistol method myself.

Thats an absolutely evil thing for anyone to do.
