Dandelion beer warning

My first ever dandelion beer was ready to try yesterday, and was very nice actually.
Even kate and kieran thought it quite refreshing and nice for a hot day.
I had about 4 glasses of it, thought it made my cold a little better (it actually made me feel very good),
.........and then this morning my husband told me that he had to fend me off as i was getting a bit amorous.

Apparently he didnt fend me off for very long.

So, there is a whole 2 litre bottle left which Im plastering with a WARNING label.
bodger

I make myself a bucket or five.

Sorry what is the problen
Lorrainelovesplants

Ive been told to lay off it...
Although apart from a small bottle I promised the vet, there is a whole 2 litres going to go to waste unless its used up quite quickly.

So.....that recipe was a sucess then.

I want the recipe too - the fun I can have with that stuff if I make gifts of it to the unwary - I know dandelions are sposed to make you wee - but I think it would make me wee myself with laughter!  The scope for fun is enormous!

Couldn't use it myself - hubby's got serious heart problems so we don't want to be calling the big white taxi just cos Polly can't take her dandelion wine!

Yes but that would mean calling out the big white taxi for me then!

+1
Lorrainelovesplants

The recipe

8oz whole young dandelion plants
8 pints water
1/2 oz root ginger, peeled & bashed (Id actually use slightly less)
peeled rind & juice of 1 lemon
1lb sugar
1 oz cream of tartar (2 teaspoons)
1 all purpose white wine yeast sachet

Dig whole plants, wash well, scrub roots & place in big pan with ginger & lemon rind & half the water.
Boil and then simmer for 10 mins.
Put sugar & cream of tartar into fermentation bucket.  Pour the mix into the bucket.  Stir until sugar dissolves.  Cool till lukewarm, then add yeast.  leave a minute or so, stir and then add lemon juice.
Cover and leave in a warm room for 3 days.
Strain into STRONG screwtop bottles.
Ready to drink in 7-10 days (when cleared).

I drunk mine at 9 days.  Despite what you'd think its like ginger beer and looks like cloudy lemonade.
I gave a bottle today to the vet to try (he's up for a challenge)

Thanks LLP........Decision time once its brewed...."Should I be tempted to try it...or should I ply OH to try it ?".........

Simple question, after all you bought the subject up........
Gareth

If I can find some Dandelions still flowering this coming weekend I shall pick a couple of bags full to make some Dandelion Mead.

Its very explosive. Just warning you to degas it a little.

Whilst waiting for it to clear I had to degass it a couple of times a day....the last bottle is calm now - saving it for the next few days.
(John is away)

...and perhaps the side effect was just my reaction.
