Dads Army?

I loved the programmes when they first came out and I still love the repeats to this day. I think they are still brilliant now as they were then and although they came out in the late seventies and early eighties they still have me in stitches.
Yes, I consider myself to be a bit of an expert on 'Dads Army' and so, when at last nights pub quiz the question master started to read me a question out on it, I was really rubbing my hands together with anticipation. However! My confidence soon left me when I was asked this little crippler. Infact, like everyone else in the room, I was absolutely stumped.  Without using Google, try this one out for size. What was the vicars surname in Dads Army?

Answers on a postcard to ....................... Even after we were told the answer, I still couldn't remember having heard it used.
Rare one

Can I answer that one Bodger?
bodger

Did you know it last night or have you Googled it since?
Rare one

No I just looked at the answer when I was asking the questions last night, I wouldn't of had a clue even though there's a Dad's Army fan in our house and keeps watching repeats , and as you said both teams were stumped with us also.

We'll leave it on for a bit longer and see if anyone can get it.

Not me I'm afraid - not without a quick google anyway.

You're spot on with your answer. What are you doing next Tuesday night?

As 12 Bore has PM'd me the answer, I'll put you out of your misery and tell you that the vicar was the Reverend Farthing.

" then " Old Helen " who never joins in pulled me aside and gave me the answer , correct i told her , yes she replied , i know them all i just dont want to spoil your fun , she has since told me most answers !!! spoiling my fun as i never get to guess now !!
bodger
