Curing Lures?

Does anyone know the best way to cure pheasant wings for making lures? I've got a few that need doing but not really sure where to start and I don't want to just waste them.

I'll speak to Flatiron for you later today and see what he has to say.

Aw thanks Bodger that would be great!

Just salt the cut ends & let them dry out naturally..................I've always found that to work just as well as anything else, MB

I agree with woodsmoke that all I do, and they are fine.

Brilliant guys thanks for that!

If using for training dogs I presume? salt isn't a great preservative as it actually attracts moisture . I always cut the under side of the wing and remove as much meat as possible , a fairly easy job after you've done a few . A small bit of Borax ( like the Boraxo you get in the detergent section of the market . sprinkle this on the remaining flesh , dry and yer good to go .
Shungar...

I also use Borax to cure wings.. Plus with the borax I press the wings inbetween two sheets of plywood with a brick on top and they dry just fine.

But after your hawk is trained I just use my "exercise" falcon lure wich is made up from car tyre inner tube, shredded at one end. It's more hygeneic as It can be washed..

Hello MB

I don't bother with any cure, just leave them hanging in the garage, pegged wing tip end to a line for a couple of weeks. They cure just fine as there's bugger all meat really.  If you need a few, I'll be happy to send you some after the start of the season .............. Dont worry about it sweetie, the ferrets rely on Sox and the Purdmister to bring them their dinner

Out walking both of them the other day, Purds goes in amongest the bushes etc and comes out with a live pigeon in her mouth, she lets it go, it flies off. Ten mins later Sox vanishes I can hear him barking at something, he comes back with the same pigeon in his mouth but now dead. thats how Stu does it   mate, thats the part he does'nt tell ya
Jonty

Ahhh, thanks darlin.  That explains a lot
