Crops for pigs?

In the spring, I'll be moving my pigs and their arks into another field. this will leave a nicely rotavated  and manured area. I'm thinking of getting it planted up with something that I could feed to the pigs Any ideas as to what might be the best thing to put in?
confused

you cant really go wrong with tatties , I used to feed mine boiled spuds a lot .

Anything they are pigs   as confused said then the ground will be good to replant we used to plant pumpkins but that was because we fed them lots and so they were self sown

Pumpkins? Did you plant seeds direct into the field or plants?
chicken feed

pigs love pumpkins & butternut squash….. ours have never been keen on spuds which is a shame as we get tonnes foc…..the cattle on the other hand love them.

If I grew pumpkins, I'd probably cash them in at Halloween rather than feed them to the pigs.

and put the funds into pig feed !! win win

We fed some of ours a lot of swedes last year and they did very well on them. Stuff we've grown and fed is stuff like courgettes/marrows, squash, pumpkins, turnips, spinach and any excess or manky fruit or veg that we've had. I've planted a lot of pumpkins with the view that I'd flog them at halloween but I've always struggled to get them ripe in time. The pigs, however, don't care if they're ripe or not. This year I've got a load of turnip and swede seeds to sow which will hopefully put a dent in the feed bill later in the year.

Just threw pumpkins in to pigs and any seeds from our and friends  ones, let the pigs do the rest then moved the pigs on all done

Artichokes?

Dint you do mangles one year that did well?
bodger

I did but there's not much in them for pigs. Even I could lose weight on them

That's interesting. We have heard over here how great they are to feed cattle during the winter. I'll have to look up what exactly makes them so good for cattle and so poor for pigs.

Plenty of bulk for the cows four stomachs but its mostly water and so pigs don't get a lot from them.

Not necessarily a bad thing if they're carrying too much lard.
