During the early 1970's my favourite was a comic called Thunder which was launched in  October 1970. Only to later merge with Lion to become Thunder & Lion

Here is a Link to Thunder's lead adventure story; Adam Eterno:

By the Mid 1970's, I had moved on to; Action, which was subsequently shut down due to what was regarded at the time it's portrayal of excessive violence.

All of the strips from the whole run of Action can be read here:

Issues and individual stories from many other now defunct British comics can be viewed and read here:

'Girl', was 'Eagle's sister comic. Full of heroines
who save the day for the school, outwit villains etc. etc., mostly set in a girls' boarding school background. I can't remember the fictional characters, but they also used to run a story of genuine heroines in comic strip form - Florence Nightingale, Edith Fry etc.
Also remember Schoolfriend, Girls Crystal and always read my younger sister's Bunty.
Plus, of course, Dandy, Beano and Beezer! You had a deprived childhood if you didn't read of the exploits of Dennis the Menace, Molly, Colonel Blimp, or Desperate Dan!
Duane Dibbley

Black Bob was in the Dandy and beautifully satirised as 'Black Bag, the adventures of a bin liner' in VIZ.

I had the Dandy, Topper and Eagle and my sister had School Friend and Girls Crystal I think.
