Cider Tree Arboretum?

I've got eight different varieties of cider tree here but there are so many more available out there. Infact, not counting the new modern  introductions, there are hundreds of them.
I would only be able to keep a small selection of them but I've been giving thought to starting a small cider tree collection, of perhaps one or two specimens of each cultivar. We have a small piece of land on our property that definitely needs a make over but the main problem other than we're hoping to move house, is the price of the actual trees.
I've been conditioned  to expect to pay around the five pounds mark for each bare rooted tree from The Frank Matthews Nursery but as yet, I've been unable  to find another company anywhere near as reasonable as them. The prices range of the other companies seem to vary from just over a tenner and up to twenty quid. Matthews's produce fantastic trees and are the biggest producer of trees in the UK but the varieties that they produce tend to be mainstream.
I think it could be quite interesting for my customers to be able a quick amble through a well kept orchard and to see the different varieties of trees and see some of the historical and sometimes hysterical names that the old trees had.
Its just a thought at this stage but a nice one all the same.

OK, look at if from this point of view. Will this Cider arboretum area be an indulgence or an asset to the Morfa Nefyn Orchard?

Although the proposed tree stock is estimated twice the cost of existing producing varieties currently being cultivated and harvested, would these new cider apple producing trees free up harvested yield from juicing varieties so that you still remain at or under the current 70 hectolitre excise limit without using juice from the juicing crop to top up cider production?

If so, go for it.

Yes, there is the initial expenditure, but is that not just a legitimate and therefore deductible financial investment that will enhance the core of the business and your own self indulgence ...    ....  and that my friend is a win, win situation in my book.

It would be an indulgence. A flight of fancy, I just fancy one.

Think of it this way then:

Around here, 21.00 across the bar of a local only buys 6 pints of popular nondescript run of the mill mega-brewery output, or is just one reasonable Chinese or Indian take-away for two

and declining either of these would be good for your waistline, and buy you a desired tree.
