Cade Lambs

I have been offered some texel x cade lambs but have never had any without mothers before so im a little sceptical. Do any of you guys rear them? are they going to cost me a fortune to raise? Any experience views greatfully received cheers matt
chicken feed

we have and are rearing cade lambs. we start them off with 5 feeds a day and drop feeds down as soon as they are taking on creep & hay, this varies from batch to batch. we are rearing 3/4 texels atm they came here on the 7th feb they are now on 3 feeds a day along with hay & ad-lib creep.

milk powder is not cheap we are well into our second bag (once the goats kid we will be on free milk !).

Yep we've had a few. Obviously, the older they are, the less hassle (getting up in the night to feed) they are too. As to cost, well bank on a bag or two of Lamblac (milk powder), some teats and old drinks bottles. Don't worry, you won't need sterilisers (or baby buggies)!

In my opinion, if you have some land and the Caids don't cost much then it's a no-brainer. Once they start on grass, you can just enjoy watching them grow and imagine what they'll taste like

Thanks guys. They are going to be around 5 days old so will be fit and lively. What do you do regarding feed bottle feed or bucket with teats on? Again thanks for advice.i think this is going to be my way forward as I can butcher some and also have an outlet for store lambs. If I can do it this way and not spend a fortune it will save me overwintering alot of ewes if that makes sense.
chicken feed

I bottle I like to know what each lamb is feeding.

Likewise but we never have more than 4 at a time anyway. You'll also want some Lamb nuts to hand. At 5 days old they should be starting to nibble those.

cade lambs are what. Texels are common here.

Orphans or the third of triplets... Something that would otherwise die unless it was bottle fed. They're cheap or even free over here
Dave C

We just call any hand reared Lambs " Pet Lambs " up here.

I have just been offered 2 for nothing as long as 1 of them whent into his freezer, i know i will regreat it but i turned the guy down as i dont have the best fences on one side.

So i think we are swapping half a Lamb for Half a pig later in the year
