Buttering Paws...

Me & Rich have just had a convo about the RSPCA (wont go into detail we are both  dissillutioned by them in experiances   ) I happened to mention on the very rare times I let my cats out I used to "Butter Their Paws" anyone else herd of this act/saying he thinks I'm mad        oh.gif

yep it is an old saying.....not sure if it works tho......
a cat will find it's own way home, regardless.

I know she's not actually mine (just likes it here ), but buttering Sheba's paws wouldn't work as she'd just lick it off and come back for more.

I had a ginger tabby tom bit like that he had at least four homes as far as I know even though i had brought him up from a kitten     he was a wonderful character his best mate in the whole wide world was my alsation "max" they used to steal food together (long story) was like watching the mission impossible team
Max kinda adopted him when he was a kitten they were awesome together but to get back to the thread i dont think you own a cat they decide if they want you

I'd heard of that as a kid.
Much easier to nail one paw to the floor though. Still get exercise running round in circles.

Traditionally used the first time they go outside of a new home - makes them want to come back and of all the folk I've heard try it - it's worked.

We've used butter for 3 generations of family on all the cats. Approximately 100 years of the same methods can't be totally wrong?!

Any chance the vet was younger than the cat - that always seems to be the case with doctors and midwives - never trust any who doesn't look old enough to shave or vote (in some cases both)

Don't quite know why it is supposed to work - possibly if they feel out of territory they can follow the butter scent back?
