Bella.

Bella our aged coloured cob had a small growth removed from the corner of her eye about five months ago. Two months ago a lump appeared just beneath her ear and above her eye. Today, the vet confirmed our worst fears.
There's nothing that can be done for the horse but at the moment, she doesn't seem to be in any pain, she's eating well and her quality of life is good. We're not going to have the horse messed with and when the time comes, she's going to be buried here at home. Its very sad of course but we've had her since she was two and she's had a good life. She's well into her twenties now, poor Bella.

Not very nice to hear but when the time comes you will know in your  heart  that the time was right.

So sorry to hear this, but what a lovely life Bella has had, and also helped you and your family to have.
darkbrowneggs

So sorry - youve made the right decision not to have her messed around with, and just let her enjoy the rest of her life, and enjoy having her with you.  She has the summer to look forward to and all that lovely fresh grass.  She looks a lovely girl.

Try to keep your mind on the 'now' (empathsing with you) and how well she is doing, knowing that she has no idea what is going on and is living each day just as she did before~thoroughly and with the enjoyment of her family. It will prove to be a priceless endeavour, but one I believe will reward you with the ability to cope when that day does come. Take care Bodger~truly.

Has winter gone yet? Bella is still with us and yesterday, we put her and our other old horse Jazz out on grass for the first time in what has been a very long wet winter. Needless to say, they both appeared to be well chuffed with their outing.
Carnach

Good to hear that Spring is coming for Bella and Jazz!
ClaireK

The time has actually come. Bellas lump has got steadily bigger but up until now she's been alright in herself and her quality of life has been good.. That's until today. her eye has closed and we've had to make the decision to have her put down. I've arranged to speak to the vet tomorrow and a digger driver will be coming to dig a grave either tomorrow afternoon or on Friday. Its  a very upsetting situation but its one that you can expect to come up against if you keep animals.
Dave C

Oh no, my heart goes out to you and Kaz

What a difficult decision and a very sad time.

Sad news, but a you say, if we keep animals its something we have to learn to expect.
Thoughts are with you as a family and of course Bella.
Bella no doubt had a wonderful life with your family.
Still a sad loss, no matter what.
