Anyone keep Bees?

It's something I like the thought of doing but I think it could be quite tricky and involved.

Anyone keep bees then?

Jim keeps bees but this is his busy time at work. I'll speak to him for you if you like.

My dad keeps bees, used to have around a 100 hives at one point but has now only got 6.

keeping bees does require some skillsand knowledge , but once you've mastered those you'll be fine. Most local beekeeping associations run beginners courses or have mentoring schemes where you get to work with an experienced beekeeper

My bees take around an hour a week April - September

There is a problem with colonies just dying off. At the moment the cause is not known though it looks like it will be a whole range of things;

bad beekeeping practice,
pesticide usage,
changes in farming practice
environmental changes,
a parasite called varroa and the viruses they introduce.

Itís not been a good year for the poor old honey bee they need all the friends they can get
