Tell him not to be shy and to introduce himself. I maybe tempted to send him a ready mix rabbit through the post.

We are over run with rabbits, healthy looking young ferrets were going for a few quid at the last poultry sale---how difficult is it to learn how to train and use them? My o.h. was seriously tempted--at the moment he pots the odd small one for the fox trap ,we set a rabbit trap without great success, but they are breeding faster than we can catch them

over run,  you are lucky heheh  not that many around my area

Have you much ground?  i'd love a weekend away shooting ferreting rabbits.

Or maybe a few nights with the night sight and rimmy

Unfortunately we are bordered by fields full of cows/sheep most of the time and one of our own 2 fields has sheep in--which is why the local shooters who try for our foxes/bunnies can't shoot very often. My husband pots the odd baby bunny from very close range with an air rifle for the fox trap. We have caught some adult rabbits in the bunny trap but it's not very succesful---the field edges are full of rabbit holes from which the rabbits come and munch on everything-- which is what made my O.H. fancy the ferrets

Ferrets are an absolute joy to own & use if you raise them the right way Lottie! I've handled all of mine (I have eight) from as young as possible. It's the only way to ensure they're hand-friendly both in the court, and whilst working

They don't need any training whatsoever, as the hunting instinct is so deeply-ingrained. They're so curious that they'll instinctively explore any buries, and once underground their predator instinct takes over. They'll generally be daft as brushes for their first working season (as they're so mischievous & full of fun), but once they mature they get their sensible heads on

If you decide to get some, kits should be starting to show early next Spring. Go for a pair (they're extremely sociable wee critters, & they don't like being solitary), & I'd recommend jills. Unless you want to bred from them, they'll need either to be spayed, or you can ask the vet to give them the 'jill jab' when they come into season. You can also put them to a vasectomised hob to bring them out of season. If they're left to their own devices, there's a danger of aplastic anaemia as their hormones keeps them in season until they're either mated, or chemically brought out of it.

Apart from that, they're very easy to keep. They can be fed proprietary ferret foods, (and/or whole rabbit of course!), need a draughtproof hutch & fresh water

Lots more info I can give you if you're interested? Just ask

Sounds like a ferrets and netting job then Lottie, I shoot on many farms with livestock on them. Just need to know where your shot is going , and with a moderator on the rimmy there's hardly no noise from   the rifle at all.

Get a ferret and some nets, for some nice bunny meat , and less buns to eat you out of house and home  so to say

Bry
