All in all, an expensive day!

" Who did you say was coming? The farrier did you say?"
" You first"

We keep three horses here on our place and all of them are well into their twenties. Two of them are Doodles old Pony Club horses and Bella the coloured horse is ours. Lee the farrier came to give them all a trim first thing this morning. They're all getting a bit stiff these days and he really earned his money. The bill for the pedicure? Seventy two quid.

With in minutes of the farrier leaving, Gwynfor the farmer who supplies us with haylage during the winter turned up with three bales. These normally last us for around four weeks or so. The bill for that? Ninety five quid, no wonder we're skint, its been an expensive day alright.

Oh boy yes I know the feeling!  our farrier charges 20 a trim per horse and we are now using large bale hay as I cannot use a large bale of hayledge before it goes off for our two and a large bale (1/2 ton) of hay is now 40 Lasts 4 weeks including the sheep and goats!

That is interesting that your hay in winter is about the same price as ours here $80/$90 last winter

Sadly, I know Ladies who would pay 24 each for a pedicure....some of them look like horse too!

I pay 132 for a trim and 2 full sets, 1 pony 1 horse. I reckon in a year i spend nearly as much on shoeing as Imelda Marcos did a few years back

God job i dont have a shoe fettish as well

isn't that the way though Claire - I'd love to be able to spend as much on myself as I do the horses - but then if I didn't have horses I probably could Nope - think I'll leave it the way it is - no competition really

Ditto Debbie, you can keep your fancy clothes and shoes, give me my neds anyday.

I had a day in Meadowhall with my daughter over the festive period and that was enough for the next 12 months. Now a day at Badminton, Burghley etc would set me up for the rest of my life, especially with a never ending bank card.

Yup, we have farrier next week, 2 trims and a set of fronts - 80

Funny, I loathe having to pay for shoes for myself, but will fork out every 7 weeks for the 'osses....
