A third world country ?

A third world country? Thats what we are fast becoming and I say this because after following all the energy saving advice, millions of people wont be able to afford to stay warm in the winter. Its a national disgrace.

Our own situation is fine at the moment and  because I have access to lots of firewood and because touch wood, I'm fit and able to collect, cut and store it we'll be able to stay warm but obviously as age catches up,this wont always be the case.
The price of world energy is going up globally but I feel that the main problem lies in the fact that essential services lie in the hands of organisations thats sole committment is to make money for their share holders.

have to agree.....

and sadly, due to the results of the vote in Scotland last week, it looks like Alex Salmon is hyping the vote for seperation again...this will mean Scotland will be on a par with ireland or Portugal.  Im so glad Im not living there any longer, although it dont look like the future here is much better....
Great Britain   RIP

Blame Maggie Thatcher. One of the biggest mistakes she made was privatising the utility companies and now they are all owned by foreign companies making huge profits. At least some of her friends and cronies ended up with cushy jobs.
Having just finished reading Clean Slate and the article entitled Local United we need to start looking at community cooperatives using micro hydro, wind turbines and anaeobic digestion schemes.
As consumers we have the power if enough of us are prepared to implement the change.

we haven't had heating oil delivered for 5 years because we have our own woods - initially it was because we though it was a waist to use the heating when we had the woodburner and unlimited free wood but now we couldn't afford it even if we wanted to use it the cost has gone up so much...5 years ago we were paying 19p ltr now I dread to think how much it is over 50p ltr?

We are paying 46p per litre for LPg compared with 35p per litre last year, BUT we have reduced our usage from 2200 2 years ago to 400 per year now.
We also use wood to power the woodburner and back boiler and its saving us a fortune (although we have to store 7 tons of wood annually).

next step....solar hot water....
and after that...who knows....
Christine

You folks are lucky. In social housing with central heating the norm, it's gas or economy 7 or flipping cold.

Lorraine - go for the solar hot water. With that and the woodburner( with backboiler) I use the immersion heater once a month maximum. 150 litres of piping hot water daily. Love Lizzie

How many tubes would you put up.....
I dont want overcapacity as we wouldnt obviously use the hot water to heat radiators in the summer, but would like to run the washing machine...(3 times a week), and wash dishes, and have the weekly bath.
