A simple sign of spring.I was held up this morning at temporary traffic lights outside Glynllfon College. To those who don't know the area, its a straight stretch bounded by the high college stone walls and tall trees. As I sat there waiting for the lights to change, a heron laboured towards me, straight up the road at about thirty of forty feet. The bird was carrying a large twig in its beak. Happy nesting. Spring is almost here.

I always think spring starts around Valentines day as the sun gets higher in the sky and feels stronger.
In a conservatory it is around then that a bit of sun really pushes the temperature up.
It gives a great lift to the spirits after the dark days of winter

Valentine's Day is supposed to be the day that birds choose a mate

Yesterday it felt like spring was on it's way, sunny but chilly and a good day to be working outside.
Today....yuck, no way, windy and rainy and generally grey.
But your mention Bodger of the heron reminded me of the one and only time I have seen a Heron in the wild. Last october we had a trip on the Teifi Railway and there it was. In fact it was still there on the return journey down the line. A lovely day out.

The catkins have quite literally been out in our garden for a couple of months.
Not so good news on the frogspawn front though. We cleaned the pond out at the end of last summer and we must have gotten rid of the frogs when we got rid of the gunk
